I have recently faced with a really interesting fact. My first app has been on the market for almost a year now and it has an average download amount that does not vary at all each day. I did an experimental trial last week – on the last week of July – and updated its price tier to Tier 1 – namely $0.99. As you and anyone would guess the sales were decreased right away.
Now, here’s the interesting thing. After a week of trial I reverted the price tier back to Free and guess what – the sales were increased by more than 900%! Wow! I guess there are crawlers that keep track of the paid apps and let users know when they become free. To have a clearer view of the effect of my experiment see the graph of sales above.
